Volleyball's Jones and Davenport Earn AAC Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – On Monday, Temple volleyball players  Sydney Jones and Taylor Davenport earned American Athletic Conference recognition from their play during last week's three matches

Jones and Davenport combined for 93 kills, helping the Owls to a 2-1 record

Jones picked up her second AAC Freshman of the Week with the help of three straight double-digit kill matches last weekend. The freshman outside hitter had a team best 5.20 kills per set while totaling 52 kills. Jones started her week versus Rider with 24 kills and 11 digs, her seventh double-double of the season. On Friday versus UTSA, the Havertown, Pa. native was second on the team with 13 kills while hitting .303. Just two days later, Jones led the Cherry and White against the second-best team in the conference, Rice, with 15 kills, the 15th time this season she's achieved double-digit kills in the Owls' 24 matches.

Davenport earned her AAC Honorable Mention for the third time this season as she averaged 4.56 kills per set, putting her second on the team in three matches. The graduate student hit .337 with 41 kills, helping her move to three kills shy of sixth all-time in Temple program history. Davenport opened the week with 19 kills on a .457 hitting percentage in 3-0 victory versus non-conference Rider. Defensively, the veteran had six digs and three blocks in the victory. Two days later, she hit .565 with a team-high 15 kills in a sweep of UTSA.

The Owls will travel to Florida for to face off with South Florida and Florida Atlantic on Friday and Sunday, respectively, as they continue AAC play.
