Volleyball's Banks and Jones Earn a Pair of AAC Player of the Week Awards

IRVING, Texas – On Monday, Temple volleyball players Chelci Banks and Sydney Jones and earned American Athletic Conference recognition from their play during last weekend of the second week of conference play.
Middle blocker Chelci Banks earned her second AAC Defensive Player of the Week of the season as she led the team with 14 blocks in total (eight solo) and averaged 2.33 blocks per set in six total sets this past weekend versus South Florida and Florida Atlantic. Banks started off the weekend against South Florida with eight blocks, tying a career-high and then helped Temple to a sweep of Florida Atlantic adding six more. Mainly known for her defense, the senior also recorded 13 kills (2.17 kills/set) while hitting .650. Banks earned double-digit points 11.5 and 12.5 in the two matches against USF and FAU.
Freshman outside hitter Sydney Jones earned her first AAC Freshman of the Week award she led the Owls with 26 kills, averaging 4.33 kills per set in six total sets. Jones also led Temple with a .400 hitting percentage and 15 digs. On Friday night versus South Florida, the Havertown, Pa. native led the Owls with 11 kills while hitting a team-best .348. Jones was one dig shy of her fourth double-double of the season as she tallied nine digs. Then on Sunday, Jones was more impressive in the sweep of Florida Atlantic, helping the Owls to their first AAC win of the season. Jones led the match with 15 kills and a .438 hitting percentage to go along with two service aces.
