News & Notes
- The Owls hit the road for the first of three straight away from Philadelphia as they take on Delaware Tuesday.
- In the season opener against Atlantic 10 preseason favorite Richmond, Temple fought back from a 17-point deficit to take a lead late in the fourth quarter but could not hold on.
- Tiarra East led the way for the Owls, scoring a team-best 23 points and adding four assists.
- The Owls did damage by converting on turnovers, scoring 26 points off of 25 Richmond miscues.
- Tarriyonna Gary also put together a nice game, scoring 18 points and coming back from an injury to knock down a go-ahead triple with less than two minutes to play.
- In her first game at Temple after spending the first four seasons of her collegiate career split between USC and Loyola Marymount, Amaya Oliver stuffed the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots in 35 minutes of action.
- The Blue Hens enter with an 0-2 record on the year, having dropped decisions to a pair of Atlantic 10 teams in George Washington and La Salle.
- In the season opener at GW, four players hit double figures in scoring led by Alieghya Bartholomew with 14 points off the bench.
- The Colonials outrebounded the Blue Hens, 46-31, and shot 50.0% from the floor.
- The Owls did damage by converting on turnovers, scoring 26 points off of 25 Richmond miscues.
- On Saturday at La Salle in Philadelphia, Rebecca Demeke scored 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting but Delaware shot just 10.0% from the field in the second half of a 68-54 setback.
- Sarah Jenkins is in her third season as head coach at Delaware and has spent the last seven seasons at the University, having served as assistant coach and associate head coach previously.
- Prior to her arrival at Delaware, she was an assistant at her alma mater Georgetown for three seasons.
- Last season, the Blue Hens went 11-20 overall and 7-11 in Colonial Athletic Association play, falling to eventual CAA Tournament champion Drexel in the conference tournament, 57-55.
- Fifth-year Tarriyonna Gary, nicknamed "T-Mac", has been a sharpshooter from the moment she stepped foot on campus just over two years ago.
- Gary has led the team in three-point field goals made in each of the last two seasons, and connected on four more threes in a 79-72 loss to Richmond on Nov. 4.
- With those four threes, Gary moved into the top 10 all-time in Temple program history with 128 three-pointers made.
- Graduate student Amaya Oliver made an all-around impact in her first game with the Temple women's basketball program on Nov. 4 vs. Richmond.
- Oliver tallied 14 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots over 35 minutes of action.
- She is the first Temple player since 2015 (Erica Covile vs. UCF) to hit those marks in all five categories, and just the fifth since the 2002-03 season.
- The only other players in the last two decades to put together Oliver's stat line in a game were Covile, Victoria Macaulay (vs. UMass in 2012-13), Kamesha Hairston (vs. Miami (Ohio) in 2006-07), and Candice Dupree (four times).
- Only seven other players have accomplished the feat across the country through the season's first week -- JuJu Watkins (USC), Gianna Aiello (Brown), Katelyn Young (Murray State), Lara Rohkohl (Charleston), Sydney Parrish (Indiana), Elena Rodriguez (Harvard), and Makayla Timpson (Florida State).
Following the road trip to Delaware, Temple will head to VCU on Friday, Nov. 15, and Georgetown on Nov. 19 before returning home on Nov. 23 for the Big 5 opener vs. Drexel.
