Following a 59-55 road victory at VCU, the Owls head to Washington D.C. to take on the Georgetown Hoyas in an AAC vs. Big East showdown.
News and Notes
- The Owls look to wrap up the three-game road stand with a contest against Georgetown in Washington D.C.
- On Friday night, Temple gutted out a 59-55 victory over VCU in Richmond. Â
- Tiarra East led the way for the Owls against VCU, dropping a career-high 28 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
- East was 11-20 from the field, shooting 55%, and made 6-10 free throw attempts on Friday night.
- Anissa Rivera dropped a double-double against VCU after contributing with 12 points and 16 rebounds.
- The Owls caused havoc on defense against VCU, causing the Rams to commit 28 turnovers, which the Owls had 15 steals on Friday night.
- The bench for the Owls combined for 21 points compared to VCU's 12 bench points.
- The Owls will return to the Liacouras Center on Saturday, November 23, for a Big 5 matchup against Drexel.
Scouting the HoyasÂ
- The Hoyas are 1-1 on the season after opening the season with a win against Virginia University of Lynchburg and falling on the road against Wisconsin.
- Kelsey Ransom is the leading scorer for Georgetown in which she is averaging 21.5 ppg for the Hoyas.
- Against Wisconsin, the Hoyas were out matched in paint as the Badgers had 40 points compared to Georgetown's 16 points. Â
- The Hoyas went 7-20 from the three-point line, shooting 35% against Wisconsin.
- Georgetown had just six assists against the Badgers in their 79-61 loss.
- In the 23-24 season, Georgetown had a record 23-12 and earned an invitation to WBIT where the Hoyas lost in the second round to the Tulsa Hurricanes.
The Closers
- Senior Tiarra East gets hot in the second half, scoring 80% of her field goals in the third and fourth quarters. In the game against VCU, she tied her career high with 28 points, shooting an impressive 7-of-9 from the field in the second half.
- East also went 6-of-10 from the free-throw line and sealed the victory for the Owls with a critical steal on VCU's final possession.
- In the season opener against Richmond, East scored 23 points, including 13 in the second half. She led a personal 8-4 run early in the fourth quarter to cut the Owls' deficit to just four.
- Transfer Anissa Rivera made an immediate impact off the bench, recording a double-double with 12 points and a dominant 16 rebounds in the Owls' win over VCU. Rivera is currently averaging 10 rebounds per game early in the season.
- Against VCU, Rivera's 16th rebound was her most important coming with 10.2 seconds remaining. Her boards helped the Owls generate 13-second chance shots.
