Men’s Soccer Clinches AAC Championship Spot with 1-0 Win Over Tulsa

Temple men's soccer defeated Tulsa on the road Friday night, 1-0, to clinch a spot in the AAC Championship. Andrew Kempe was a force in goal, recording his fourth clean sheet of the season with five saves, as a goal in the 47th minute sealed the deal for the Owls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With the win, the Owls have clinched a spot in the AAC Championship for the first time since 2020-21. TU's seeding in the tournament will be dependent on the result of FAU's match against Charlotte on Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. The AAC Men's Soccer Championship begins on Friday, Nov. 8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Temple's backline was firm, denying multiple Tulsa opportunities through the first 15 minutes.
- Kempe set the tone early with two saves in the first 25 minutes.
- After a drawn penalty from Nathan Brown, the Owls struck first off a deflection from a Lukas Egarter free kick.
- TU's offense stayed aggressive, with shots from Rocco Haeufgloeckner, Elias Betancourt and George Medill between the 59th and 62nd minutes.
- Kempe hauled in impressive back-to-back saves in the 66th and 68th minutes.
- Reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Week, Kemali Green, and the Temple backline again held strong, allowing zero shots between the 71st to 78th minutes despite three Tulsa corner kicks.
- Kempe finished the regular season with six goals allowed—the lowest mark from an Owl with at least three starts since Dan Scheck in the 2012 season.
- Tonight's match marked the fifth consecutive game in which the Owls haven't recorded a loss. This is their longest streak without a setback since 2019.
- Haeufgloeckner's two shots on goal set a career-high. He previously recorded two shots in two matches last season against Stony Brook and SMU.
- Temple closed its regular season with three road wins against Akron, UAB and Tulsa tonight. This is their best mark on the road since 2020-21.
- The Owls finished their in-conference schedule allowing the second-fewest goals with four.
- Flannan Riley and Andrew Kempe have been strong in goal all season, as the Owls lead the conference with a save percentage of .857.
