After a 62-57 loss to Princeton on Tuesday night, the Owls are back in action in a Big Five matchup against the La Salle Explorers.
News & Notes
• The Owls are set for a pivotal Big Five contest against La Salle on Sunday afternoon at John Glaser Arena.
• The Owls fell 62-57 to Princeton on Tuesday night, picking their second loss at home for the 2024-25 season.
• Tiarra East, in back-to-back games, has scored double-digit points in the second half. In the fourth quarter alone, she had 14 points on 5-6 shooting.
• Kaylah Turner had a season-high 15 points on 6-9 shooting.
• Tristen Taylor stuffed the stat box with 9 points, six assists, and four steals against Princeton.
• The Owls scored 17 points in the first half - their lowest total since 1/17/23 vs Tulsa
• The Owls outscored the Tigers 21 to 12 in the fourth quarter, and the Owls shot 44% from the field and shooting 43% from three.
• The Owls will play in the Big Five Tournament on December 6, in Villanova, Pa., at Finneran Pavilion.
Scouting the Explorers
• La Salle earned a 65-62 victory over Lehigh University on Tuesday night.
• The Explorers are on a three-game winning streak following wins against Rider, American, and Lehigh.
• La Salle has not lost since November 17 when the Explorers lost 76-47 to Virginia in Charlottesville.
• La Salle has two players averaging double-digit points for the team.
• Ashleigh Connor is La Salle's leading scorer, averaging 11.7 points, six rebounds, and two assists per game.
• La Salles' last three games, all have been decided by less than ten points.
• Against Lehigh, La Salle shot 40% from the field, making 23-57 FGA, while also shooting 31% from behind the 3-point line on 5-16 attempts.
• The Explorers in the 23-24 season had a record of 8-22 and had a conference record of 5-13.
• La Salle's home record last was 3-11 and on the road they were 5-10.
T-Mac Moves Up All-Time Three-Point Leaderboard
•Fifth-year Tarriyonna Gary, nicknamed "T-Mac", has been a sharpshooter from the moment she stepped foot on campus just over two years ago.
•Gary has led the team in three-point field goals made in each of the last two seasons, and connected on four more threes in a 79-72 loss to Richmond on Nov. 4.
•Gary moves up to 7th in temple history with 135 three-pointers made. Gary surpassed Marissa Mackins (2018-20) and Clauderna Harold (1994-97). Gary has solidified her place among the top players in the program's history. She also ranks 4th in Temple's school history with a 37.0% three-point shooting percentage.
Welcome to College
•Felicia Jacobs recorded her first collegiate points on (11/23/24), with a buzzer-beating layup that trimmed the deficit to five in her team's comeback victory over Drexel. The London native has appeared in four games, averaging two rebounds and 10 minutes of play per game.
•Freshman Savannah Curry and Adena Webster made an impact Tuesday evening. Curry scored her first collegiate points (11/19/24) against Georgetown and finished the game with 12 points, shooting 5-8 from the field, five rebounds, and one steal.
• Curry was a state champion locally at Westtown School and scored more than 1,000 points in her high school career.
•Adena Webster scored her first collegiate points (11/19/24) against Georgetown after drawing the contact and being sent to the line, making one of two free throws.
• Webster averaged 34.4 points per game at Archbishop Carroll in Miami as a junior and was an All-Dade County honoree after starring at the junior level in her native Bahamas.
•They are three of the seven newcomers Temple welcomed to the 2024-25 season.
"Second Half T"
• Tiarra East, in the last two games for Temple, has combined for 29 points in the second half following slow starts in both games.
• In the fourth quarter against Princeton, East shot 5-6 from the field, collecting 13 points and an 83% shooting percentage.
• Against Drexel, East scored 11 points in the second half while shooting 75% in the third quarter after starting the game 2-9.
• East dropped 20 points in the second half versus VCU to propel the Owls to a 59-55 win over the Rams.
• East, in the second half against VCU, went 7-9 from the floor, shooting an outstanding 78%.
Fourth Quarter Rally
•Temple Women's basketball has outscored four of five opponents in the fourth. Limiting their last two opponents Drexel and Princeton to only eight and 11 points in the previous 10 minutes.
•The Owls rallied back from an 18 and 17-point deficit in the second half and shot 44.4% from the field in the fourth quarter after trailing by 18 points against Princeton early in the third.
•Temple has had games where they were trailing by a significant margin entering the fourth quarter but managed to flip the script with high-intensity play, great ball movement, and other adjustments.
•TU has enhanced both their offensive and defensive play in the fourth quarter, effectively forcing turnovers from their opponents.
