NEW YORK, N.Y. - Alizé Maes was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, leading a group of three Temple players recognized by the conference in its annual awards announced Wednesday morning. Maes and Tess Muller were named to the First Team. Devin Kinzel is a Second Team honoree.

Maes is the first major award winner for the Owls in the BIG EAST since Amber Youtz was the Offensive Player of the Year in 2014.

The senior from Belgium led a defense that topped the BIG EAST in shutouts and allowed just 12 goals in conference play. She also led Temple with 19 points and tied for the team lead with seven goals. It is her second All-Conference recognition after earning Second Team accolades last year.

Muller is recognized as a First Team performer for a third consecutive season. She recorded six goals and had five assists this year. Her assist on Sunday against Lehigh was the 24th of her career, tying her for 10th all-time in program history.

Kinzel makes her first All-BIG EAST team for a year in which she tied for the Owls' lead in goals with seven and added four assists. She also was a part of the back line that helped allow a stingy 4.6 defensive penalty corners per game.

Temple opens its postseason run on Friday, November 8 when it takes on third-seeded Old Dominion in the BIG EAST semifinals. Game time from Lennox Family Field in Providence, R.I. is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
