Track & Field Sees Strong Results at Scarlet Knight Open

NEW YORK, N.Y. — The Temple track & field program saw a productive weekend at the Scarlet Knight Open at The Armory in New York City.

The Cherry & White hauled in several personal records and podium finishes, competing against a field of 32 collegiate teams. The two-day competition concluded a streak of three consecutive meets in New York City.

Highlights

  • Amira Green and Nicole Castor put together a strong showing in the high jump for the Owls. Green won the event after clearing 1.70 meters (5-07) and Castor placed fifth with a height of 1.65 meters (5-05).
  • Elsa Chan set a new personal record in the 3,000 meters, finishing with a time of 9:55.26. The sophomore placed sixth out of 43 runners in the event.
  • Temple's long and triple jumpers had a productive weekend at The Armory. Inara Shell placed eighth overall in the women's long jump championship division with a mark of 5.64 meters (18-06). Obiamaka Igwenagu won the college division after leaping 5.60 meters (18-04). Reagan Schwartz set a new personal record with a mark of 5.41 meters (17-09) to place fourth in the college division. Igwenagu won the college women's triple jump with a leap of 12.54 meters (41-01.75). Shell placed fourth at 12.09 meters (39-08) and Schwartz placed 10th with a new personal record of 11.41 meters (37-05.25).
  • Fiona Carter showed off her versatility in the women's pentathlon, placing third overall with 3116 points. Carter placed top three in three events and tallied the top score in the pentathlon high jump at 1.58 meters (5-02.25).
  • In the 60-meter hurdles, Nya Browne placed third in the prelims with a time of 8.91. The freshman clocked in at 8.80 in the finals to take home a third-place podium finish.
  • Jade Pope finished the 400 meters with a time of 58.41, placing eighth overall out of a field of 58 athletes.
  • In the pole vault, Cierra Crane and Aliza White Vega battled against a competitive field. Crane cleared 3.55 meters (11-07.75) to place 11th and White Vega came in 13th at 3.55 meters (11-07.75).
  • Freshman Emma-Kate Watt ran a personal best in the one mile, clocking in at 5:14.81. She also ran her first collegiate 800 meters, finishing with a time of 2:22.93.

Up Next

The Owls will travel up to Boston, Massachusetts to compete at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Feb. 9.
