Golf Sits Tied-2nd After 36 Holes of ECU Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C.- The Owls had impressive first two rounds of the ECU Intercollege, placing tied for second place out of the 15-team field. The team shot a sixteen-over, 592 with a 297 in round one and improving to a 295 in round two. Junior Ethan Whitney and Senior Graham Chase both highlighted the day for the Owls, both placing in a tie for third place overall.Â

Recapping the Day
- The Owls lead the field with the best scoring average on par 3s with an average score of 3.1, good for four-over. They had three players shoot even par overall on par 3s, tying for third best in the field.Â
- Whitney carded an impressive three-under, 69 in round two, which was tied for the best score in the field for round two. He carded five birdies on the round. He shot 75 in round one giving him an overall day of even par.Â
- Chase also carded a round of even par with a pair of 72s on the day. He led the team in birdies in round one with four.Â
- Juniors Michael Walsh and Jake Naese placed in a tie for 34th overall with a nine-over, 153. Walsh shot a two-over, 74 in round one and a 79 in round two. Naese participated in the tournament as an individual and shot a 78, 75 in his two rounds.Â
- Junior Joey Morganti and Senior Andrew Curran both placed t-44th individually with overall scores of 10-over. Morganti was one of the three Owls that shot even par on the par 3s. Curran is making his spring debut as an individual.Â
- Freshman Matthew Vital finished up his rounds with an 11-over, 155. He is in a tie for 53rd.Â
The Field
- Tournament host, East Carolina sits atop the team leaderboard with a score of eight-over, 584. They had by far the best single round score among the field with a 286 in round one. They are currently eight strokes in front of the Owls and Barton College for first place.Â
- East Carolina's Drew O'Neal and Barton College's Ryan Jahr both stand in first place for individuals with scores of two-under. Jahr shot the best single round score after shooting 68 in round one.Â
