PHILADELPHIA – Fencers Anna Novoseltseva and Lauren Johnson have been selected to represent the No. 9 Temple fencing team at the 2024 NCAA Championships, March 21-24 at Ohio State University, as announced by the NCAA.
For Novoseltseva, this is the third-straight year the junior foilist has been selected as she looks to improve on her 21st and 22nd finishes from the past two seasons, while the freshman sabreist Johnson will make her debut.
The NCAA event will start on Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m. with the women's foil and then at 1:30 p.m. with the women's sabre, with each a round-robin format of five-touch bouts. After round-robin, the top-four finishers in each weapon will fence in semifinal 15-touch bouts, with winners fencing to determine first and second places, and non-advancing fencers being awarded a tie for third place.
An institution's place finish in the championships will be based on points earned by each individual. A team will be awarded one point for each victory by its student-athletes during round-robin competition.
At NCAA Regionals at Drew University, Novoseltseva and Johnson were two of the four Owls' fencers to move in to the final round, earning finished in fifth and eighth-place rankings, respectively..
