Mastropietro Scores Four, but Lacrosse Falls to No. 17 USC

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Temple women's lacrosse team battled but came up short in their Friday matchup with 17th ranked USC, falling 12-7 in Los Angeles. The Owls fall to 5-3 before the start of conference play next week.
Belle Mastropietro scored four times and dished one assist to lead the offense. Mackenzie Roth added a pair of goals, Maeve Tobin had three assists, and Taylor Grollman made 13 saves in the game.
How it Happened
> The Trojans got on the board first less than three minutes in, and Temple had to wait another eight minutes before Mackenzie Roth made it a 1-1 game at the 4:50 mark. USC added two more before the end of the first quarter.
> Goals from Mastropietro and Roth evened the score at 3-3 early in the second. The Owls defense was able to lock down USC for most of the period, but a late goal put the Trojans up one going into halftime.
> Both teams went back and forth in a higher scoring third quarter, with Temple getting two goals from Mastropietro and one from Amelia Wright. USC was able to keep the Owls at bay, though, extending their lead to 9-6 heading into the final quarter.
> Mastropietro fired home her fourth goal on a free-position attempt at the 10:45 mark in the fourth, which would end up being the Owls' final score of the day.Â
