Women's Tennis Fights Fierce Battle Against Highlanders

NEWARK, N.j. - After earning the doubles point and two singles victories, Temple women's tennis (6-3) came up just short of a win against the NJIT Highlanders (11-1) on Friday afternoon, 4-3. Four out of six singles matches went to three-sets in order to decipher the victor. The Cherry and White's trip to Newark marked their first away match in six weeks.

NOTES:

The Owls started off strong by winning the doubles point, with victories from Evie Wei/Jessie Zheng and Marianthi Christoforidou/Vineetha Mummadi. Wei/Zheng's 6-3 win from the second position got the ball rolling for Temple. After falling in the first position, Christoforidou/Mummadi secured the point by topping NJIT, 7-5. This stands as the second victory in a row for both duos.
Thamara Frasser Kawaratani and Evie Wei topped the Highlanders in singles action. Finishing third, Kawaratani took the win in a competitive three-set match against NJIT's Wipfli, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4. Wei finished fifth, coming up with her seventh consecutive singles victory in a three-set triumph versus Aydin, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1.
