Women's Tennis to Visit Oklahoma for Weekend Matches

PHILADELPHIA- The Owls (9-5) are set travel to Oklahoma to face North Texas (10-11) and the University of Tulsa (9-11). Temple will play North Texas at noon on Saturday, April 13 at Tulsa. The Cherry and White will return to Tulsa at noon on Sunday, April 14 to take on the Golden Hurricane. This marks the first of Temple's conference matches.
THE OWLS
- The Owls enter the match after dominating Hampton on Senior Day, 6-1, and sweeping Binghamton the previous weekend, 7-0.
- The Cherry and White won seven consecutive matches in the middle of the season, which began when the squad swept Siena College and Villanova University, followed by victories against Norfolk State University, Howard University, and FDU.
- Marianthi Christoforidou, Vineetha Mummadi, Sena Takebe, Maiko Uchijima, and Jessie Zheng obtain six singles wins.
- In doubles, Wei and Jessie Zheng uphold the team high, tallying eight victories throughout the season, which surpasses Wei's initial record of six for most doubles wins in a single season.
- Seated at No. 47 in doubles play, Maiko Uchijima and Nanere have also achieved No. 19 and 20 this season.
- As a team, Temple completed an intense fall season, where it played in the Penn Invitational from Sept. 8-10, the Villanova Invitational from Sept. 15-17, the Cissie Leary Invitational from Sept. 22-24, ITA Regionals from Oct. 6-8, the Princeton Invitational from Oct. 13-15, ITA Super-Regionals from Nov. 1-5, and the doubles pair of Nanere and Uchijima earned an invitation to the ITA National Fall Championships where they achieved the Round of 8. In November, the pair was ranked No. 20 in National Doubles Rankings.
Scouting The Mean Green
- North Texas stands at a 10-11 record, with its last match resulting in a 4-1 loss versus Tulane.
- Lou Chalard and Carolina Laydner lead the team with nine singles wins under their belt.
- In doubles, Stadfany Nformi/Olivia Malm sit at the top of the Mean Green with eight.
Scouting The Golden Hurricane
- Tulsa enters the weekend with a 9-11 record. The Golden Hurrican will play North Texas on Friday before facing the Owls. The team achieved a 4-1 win over No. 63 Wichita State on April 8.
- Maria Berlanga leads the Golden Hurricane with 12 singles wins.
- Berlanga/Lily Hutchings have earned ten doubles victories.
