Men's Soccer to Open Conference Play Against No. 19 Charlotte

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University men's soccer team will open up conference play as the Owls return to campus on Saturday, Sept. 21, to face the No. 19 Charlotte 49ers at 7:00 p.m. TU enters the match with a 2-3-2 record following a 1-0 win against the Akron Zips on Sept. 14. Charlotte enters the match at 4-0-2, having recently defeated Campbell 1-0.
Scouting Temple
- Nathan Brown drew two yellow cards in Temple's match against Akron. Brown also earned the Owls a PK opportunity in the 86th minute, setting up the game-winning shot for Alex Champagne.
- Andrew Kempe is projected to start in goal as TU has alternated goalkeepers this season. In his last start against Drexel, Kempe recorded a season-high six saves as Temple held the Dragons scoreless in the second half.
- This will be TU's first match this season against a ranked opponent. Last season, the Owls went 1-1 against ranked opponents, defeating No. 10 Syracuse 2-1 on Oct.10.
Scouting Charlotte
- Charlotte leads the conference with 33 points. They also led the AAC in this category last season, tallying 103.
- Senior Ian Pitcher was recently named AAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the 49ers limit UNC Greensboro to two shots in their match on Sept. 13.
- Charlotte Head Coach Kevin Larsen is in his 13th season with the 49ers. The team has appeared in ten NCAA tournaments during his tenure, falling to No. 9 Clemson in the Second Round last season.
Series History against Charlotte
- This will be the Owls' seventh meeting against Charlotte. This is their third in-conference meeting since the 49ers joined the conference for the 2022 season.
