PHILADELPHIA - Myrthe Schuilenburg scored the game-winning goal 3:57 into overtime as the Temple field hockey team delivered a 1-0 win against the No. 18 Old Dominion Monarchs in BIG EAST action on Friday afternoon.

BY THE NUMBERS

The win was Temple's first against ODU since October 7, 2016.
It was the first goal the season for Schuilenburg.
Peyton Rieger assisted on the lone goal of the game, her second helper of the year.
With the shutout, Isabella Ospitale has not allowed a goal in 128:42.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The two teams played a very defensive minded first half as neither generated many scoring opportunities. The best chance for the Owls came with two minutes remaining in the first quarter as Temple got a pair of shots off a corner, but both the initial strike and the rebound were turned aside by the ODU keeper.
Early in the third period, the Monarchs had one of their best attempts in the game, also off a corner. After the direct shot was saved by Ospitale, a rebound looked like it was destined to find the back of the cage before Lina Neilson came up with a defensive save to keep the contest level.
Both teams registered shots in the fourth, but the game went scoreless into overtime. After taking possession on a turnover, a long pass down the right side of the field was tracked down by Rieger. She made a sharp left turn and came along the baseline where she was able to deliver a perfect pass to Schuilenberg who delivered the ball past the goalie for the victory.
