No. 11 Fencing Returns Home for Day 1 of the Philadelphia Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – No. 11 Temple Fencing will host the first of the three-day Philadelphia Invitational on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Temple Pavilion. This weekend will mark the Owls' first team competition in over a month as they return from their winter training camp. 
 
Temple's opening day of competition will feature matchups against North Carolina, No.4 (DIII) Johns Hopkins, and UC San Diego, with the first bout scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
The Owls will travel across the city on Sunday to Penn for a full day of fencing. Temple will open the day at 8:30 a.m. against No. 6 Duke, followed by matches against Fairleigh Dickinson, Haverford, Wagner, and No. 12 Yale.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Temple sent three fencers to USA Fencing's January North American Cup in Kansas City, Mo. on Jan. 3-4. Epeeist Jara Del Cura and sabreist Lauren Johnson both advanced to the round of 128.
 
The Owls most recent team competition took place at the Tradition Meet in Poughkeepsie, N.Y on Dec. 8. Temple finished the event undefeated with a perfect 5-0 record and an impressive 91-32 cumulative bout score.
 
INDIVIDUALLY AT TRADITION MEET
Junior foilist Natalie Adams-Kim finished the day with a 10-1 record, while senior foilist Anna Novoseltseva went 3-0 against NYU, helping Temple secure a 14-13 victory.

Sophomore epeeist Grace Smith went 7-2 in Poughkeepsie in her first dual meet action of the season.
 
Freshman Samantha Nathanson (10-2) and Alexandra Papapetropoulou (9-1) combined for a 19-3 record in sabre.
 
UP NEXT
Following this weekend's competition, Temple will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Penn State Invitational in University Park, Pa.
