Temple Takes Down Memphis in Four Sets

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's volleyball (13-11, 3-7 American) topped Memphis (10-15, 1-9 American) in four sets Sunday afternoon at McGonigle Hall. Christiana Greene notched a double-double with a career-high 22 kills and 12 digs, while Qairo Bentley recorded a season-high 25 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 (Temple 25, Memphis 16)
Temple went on a 6-0 run led by Alyssa Finister with a solo block. During the run, the Owls recorded their second ace of the match from Olivia Hummel and kills from Leia Harper and Christiana Greene.
The Owls remained in control throughout the set, holding Memphis to just seven kills to close it out, 25-16.
SET 2 (Temple 23, Memphis 25)
Memphis looked to respond in set two, going on an early 3-0 run to lead 7-4.
Temple countered with a 4-0 run featuring a mix of blocks and kills, taking a one-point lead at 15-14 after an ace from Greene.
The set featured 10 ties before Memphis sealed it with a kill to win 25-23.
SET 3 (Temple 25, Memphis 21)
The Tigers jumped ahead early with a six-point lead, 9-3.
The Owls chipped away with a 3-0 run highlighted by three straight blocks to trail by three, 10-7.
Mickhaila Murray delivered back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to one, 17-16.
Hummel closed out the set for the Owls with two kills to take it, 25-21.
SET 4 (Temple 25, Memphis 17)
Kills by Hummel and Greene gave the Owls an early 4-1 advantage.
Both teams traded points, but Temple maintained control with a 15-12 lead.
Murray sealed the match for the Owls with a kill, 25-17.

Greene tallied seven kills in set one on 12 attempts, hitting .417.
The Owls had six aces through two sets and finished with nine total.
Temple hit .429 in the fourth set.
