LAST TIME OUT
The Temple Owls (5-3, 3-1 AMER) came home from Tulsa with an overtime win in dramatic fashion to say the least. The game was as back-and-forth as games go, and by the end of the night one play truly made the difference. The game did start slow, however, the first touchdown wasn't scored until there was 3:50 remaining in the opening quarter. Evan Simon began his outstanding day through the air by finding wideout Kajiya Hollawayne open in the back of the end zone to put the Owls up 7-3. Before the expiration of the first quarter, the first and only turnover occurred. Temple's Katin Suprenant forced his third fumble of the season, which ties him for third in the FBS in that category, and gave the Temple offense the ball back.

10 plays and 59-yards later, Simon would notch his second passing score of the day. Running back Jay Ducker was wide open in the flat and would haul in the pass to put Temple up 14-3 early in the second quarter. Tulsa would respond rather quickly. The Golden Hurricane would march down the field in 2:51 to cut the lead to 14-10. Brody Foley would run the wildcat play for the score which would prove to be a notable play throughout the contest. Temple's Hunter Smith would run for the longest play of the game for either team on the following offensive drive. The running back burst through the offensive line and ran for 72 yards to set the Temple offense inside the Tulsa five-yard line. The Golden Hurricane, however, would not be phased. Tulsa would hold Temple out of the end zone, and the highlight would be a stoppage on fourth-and-two that would give the ball back to the Tulsa offense with just under two minutes remaining in the half. 10-plays and 99-yards later, the Tulsa offense took the lead. Two big passing plays of 38 and 22 yards would get the Golden Hurricane into scoring position before quarterback Baylor Hayes found Foley in the back of the end zone for the score.

Coming out of the half, the Temple offense made up for the lack of scoring to end the first half. The Owls marched down the field in just five plays that would get them the lead back. The drive featured a patented catch-and-run from tight end Peter Clarke that displayed athleticism and strength. The junior made a 50-yard play that would help the Owls get back into gear in a quick way. Two plays later Simon would toss his third score of the day and second to Ducker that would get Temple back on top 21-17 with 12:28 left in the third. The ensuing Tulsa drive would again have a lead change at the end of it. The Golden Hurricane marched down the field in 12 plays that ended in a Hayes touchdown pass to Grayson Tempest that would swing the score in Tulsa's favor 24-21. Simon continued to find success through the air for the Temple offense on the next drive. The signal caller found wide receiver JoJo Bermudez open over the middle of the field that would set up the Owls to get back on top. Simon would find his favorite target of the day for a second time in Hollawayne from six-yards out. Temple now led 28-24 with 4:06 left in the quarter.

Punts and strong defense would then tell the story for the next few drives for both teams. The lone points of the fourth for Temple came from the foot of Carl Hardin. Temple's offense stalled just past midfield that gave the redshirt sophomore the opportunity to knock the ball through the uprights and he did just that. Hardin hit his career-long field goal from 52-yards out to put the Owls up 31-24 with 6:00 minutes left. The next Tulsa drive was a continuation of what its offense did all day, throw the ball down field. Two big penalties followed by a 43-yard pass from Hayes set the Golden Hurricane up at the Temple one-yard line. Tulsa would punch it in on the very next play to tie things up at 31. Temple's offense would gain some yardage on the following drive in an attempt to win the game, but the drive resulted in a punt that would take time off the clock, and Tulsa would take a knee to go to overtime. Temple got the ball first in overtime and would score in just two quick plays. Simon found Colin Chase for a 24-yard gain and would follow that up with his fifth passing touchdown of the day and third to Kajiya Hollawayne, a career-high for the wideout. Temple's defense would need a stop on the next drive, and it got that, but not without a little excitement. Tulsa's offense would be faced with a fourth-down and six to go from the Temple nine-yard line, and Hayes would get the job done yet again. The quarterback found Tempest in the back of the end zone for the score. Tulsa's head coach Tre Lamb would decide to end the game one way or another on the next play. The Golden Hurricane would attempt to go for two. The same wildcat play by Foley that worked a few times prior for Tulsa had a slight adjustment on the final play of the game, but it would not be successful. Foley would attempt a quick pop-pass from two-yards out that fell incomplete thanks to quick pressure from Demerick Morris, and the Owls would walk away with the victory.

EAST CAROLINA IN 2025
The Pirates are coming off of a bye week in week nine and enter Saturday's game against Temple with a 4-3 record, 2-1 in American Conference play. ECU is under the direction of first-year head coach Blake Harrell after he was the interim head coach throughout the 2024 season. Harrell has led the Pirates to a 4-3 record thus far in 2025, and most recently earned a second win in conference play over Tulsa 41-27. The Pirates started the season with an in-state battle with N.C. State, falling closely 24-17 to the Wolf Pack. ECU would then go on it's only winning-streak of the season to this point as the Pirates topped Campbell and Coastal Carolina, only giving up three points combined to the opposition in those games. A loss to BYU was followed by the first conference win of the season by the Pirates in a 28-6 rout of the Army Black Knights. ECU would then lose to Tulane in a close fight 26-19, but then follow it up with a resounding win at home against Tulsa 41-27. The Pirates average 30.29 points per game and have had a large amount of success passing the ball with starting quarterback Katin Houser. Houser averages 284.14 yards per game through the air with ten touchdowns and four interceptions. He also has four rushing scores.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's matchup will be the 22nd of all time between the two programs with East Carolina holding a 12-9 edge on Temple. ECU has won the last four meetings, two of which coming at Lincoln Financial Field. The last time these two programs faced off was in 2024 in Greenville, N.C. when the Pirates topped the Owls in a high-scoring affair 56-34. This series has been a series of streaks. Each team has had multiple winning-streaks of at least two games dating back to 1982. The last win against ECU for Temple came back in 2018 when the Owls scorched the Pirates 49-6.
