PHILADELPHIA – On Saturday during the 45th Annual Coach Nikki Franke Classic, the Temple Owls had a successful day on the strip, earning four top 15 finishes, including medals in epee from reigning USFCA Epee Newcomer of the Year Victoria Doroshkevich.
FOIL

In pool play one of the foil, five of Temple's fencers moved to pool play two with three wins apiece, while freshman Milena Žunic moved on with four wins. Similarly, all foilists moved to pool play two with freshman Anais Wandji, Aurelie Suelter, and Milena Žunic going 2-2, 3-1, and 4-0 respectively, sophomore Jara Del Cura going 2-2, and senior Natalie Adams-Kim going 3-1.

In the elimination round, Žunic moved her way through the bracket, ultimately falling in the round of 16 to Boston College's Cameron Cho. Adams-Kim also fought to the round of 16 but fell to Duke's Skylar Knight in a close 15-14 battle.

Rounding out the top 15 in the foil were Žunic and Adams-Kim.
EPEE

Just like foil squad, the epeeists also moved all five of its feners through to both pool plays. Freshman Eliana Geva won three of four of her bouts, sophomore Auprell Edwards and Victoria Doroshkevich going four for four and one for three, respectively, junior Lindsey Minor went three for four, and senior Anne-Mai Melles won two of four bouts.

Sophmore Victoria Doroshkevich highlighted the epeeists as she earned a medal with an eighth-place finish by defeating Andrea Waller Del Valle, 15-2, Tallulah Nguyen, 15-11, and Ginevra Giordano of Boston College, 15-13, before losing to Grace Hu of Penn, 14-8.

Lindsey Minor, Auprell Edwards, and newcomer Eliana Geva all made it to the round of 32 in the tableau before bowing out.
SABRE

All five Cherry and White sabreists earned spots in both pool play one and pool play two; newcomer Keely Carter with a team-best bout of the day at five for five in pool play two, freshman Rayaana Grulich followed by going four for five, Samantha Nathanson and Alexandra Papapetropoulou three for five, and Reese Birnstill two for five.

Grulich shined with an 11th place finish as she defeated Cassandra He, 15-4, Liisa Hambazaza of NYU, 15-13, but dropped her last bout to Lydia Johnson of Boston College, 15-11.

Freshman Keely Carter finished 17th on the afternoon. The North Carolina native started pool play two by winning five of five matches. Carter then went on to start the elimination round with a bye before eventually falling in the round of 32 to UNC's Dagny Johnson, 15-7.
UP NEXT
The Owls fencers will be back in action on Nov. 16 as they travel to Fort Worth, Texas for the November Fencing North American Cup.
