Owls Roll Past Explorers in First Big 5 Meeting of the Season

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's basketball (3–1) came out victorious against Big 5 rival La Salle (3–1) on Friday afternoon at the Liacouras Center. Kaylah Turner led all Owls with 12 points, while Saniyah Craig, Kelian Cedano, and Jaleesa Molina each added 11. Both Molina and Craig recorded double-doubles. The win marks the Owls' 11th straight against the Explorers.

First Quarter
  • Saniyah Craig fought for an offensive rebound and scored the first basket of the game.
  • Kiara Williams responded with back-to-back baskets to give La Salle a 4–2 lead.
  • A fast break put the Explorers ahead 6–5 with under seven minutes left.
  • La Salle entered a scoring drought at the five-minute mark, going 0–4 and eventually 1–7 before Anna Przyszlak broke the slump with a layup, cutting the deficit to 9–8.
  • By the media timeout at 3:58, the teams had already traded the lead four times.
  • Williams knocked down a three-pointer to put La Salle up 11–9, improving to 3–3 from the field.

Third Quarter
  • Macktoon scored the opening basket of the second half, making it 34–26.
  • Crisp ball movement on a fast break allowed Craig to convert an easy layup, pushing the lead back to double digits.
  • After another Macktoon basket, La Salle went 1–8 from the floor and endured a scoring drought of over two minutes.
  • Turner weaved through defenders for a layup to restore a 12-point lead, 40–28.
  • Cedano cut backdoor, absorbed contact from Connor, and finished a three-point play to make it 42–28.
  • La Salle shot 2–12 during the stretch before Ivona Miljanic knocked down a jumper to make it 43–30 Temple, following a drought of nearly four minutes.

Fourth Quarter
  • Craig collected an offensive rebound off a missed three and scored to make it 51–36.
  • Brianna Mead buried a deep three to extend the lead to 18—the Owls' largest at that point.
  • Drew Alexander hit her first three of the game to push the margin to 63–42.
  • Temple then committed four straight turnovers and went 1–7 from the field, enduring a scoring drought of over three minutes until Cedano broke through with an open layup.
  • Mead scored again in the paint, giving her a season-high seven points.
  • Macktoon finished with a team-high 16 points for the Explorers.
