11.17.25 | Women's Fencing
PHILADELPHIA -Â Temple Fencing's annual Coach Nikki Franke Classic made a meaningful impact this year by hosting a school supply drive in partnership with the Edward Gideon School in North Philadelphia. Participants, spectators, and supporters contributed a wide range of essential supplies, from hygiene products to uniforms, all aimed at supporting students and their families throughout the school year. This charitable effort underscored the event's dedication to both athletic excellence and community service, building on its tradition of supporting local causes and honoring the legacy of service that Coach Nikki Franke embodiesÂ
More than 60 individuals came together to support the Gideon School at the 2025 Coach Nikki Franke Classic school supply drive, reflecting the fencing community's strong tradition of service and compassion. The drive, dedicated in memory of Omari Everette-Mitchell, saw donations of socks, underwear, deodorant, sanitary supplies, leggings, disinfectant wipes, and cleaning wipes pour in from participants, parents, and supporters throughout the event. Â
Collectively, over $1,700 worth of physical supplies were donated, with an additional $861 contributed to the school's Amazon gift card fund, ensuring targeted purchases could address the specific needs of students at Gideon School. The generosity extended beyond physical goods and online transactions, as many attendees made in-person cash donations at the Classic. While the exact count is unknown due to these cash gifts, every donation helped the team reach a total value of $2,595.35 in support for local families. Â
Temple Fencing and the Coach Nikki Franke Classic organizers extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this community cause. The legacy of service at the heart of this event will continue to motivate and inspire future initiatives that support North Philadelphia's youth and honor the enduring spirit of both the fencing community and the memory of Omari Everette-Mitchell.Â
