Turner’s Career-High Leads Owls to 88-63 Win Over VCU

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women's basketball team (5-5) cruised to an 88-63 win over the visiting VCU Rams (3-7). Kaylah Turner led the Owls in scoring with a new career-high 29 points (9-13 FG). She also shot 6-8 from behind the arc. Jaleesa Molina recorded her fourth double-double of the season after tallying 11 points and 10 rebounds.

How it happened
First Quarter
  • Kaylah Turner scored the first basket of the game after her shot from behind the arc found nothing but net.
  • Saniyah Craig grabbed a rebound and made a tough basket down low while also earning a trip to the line. The Owls led 6-2 two minutes into the contest.
  • Since the 7:32 mark, the Owls had three straight possessions end in turnovers until Turner knocked down a three.
  • The Owls soared to an 11-1 run over a three-minute span, forcing VCU to call a timeout, 14-3 Temple.
  • Heading into the media timeout, the Rams were 1-6 from the floor and endured a scoring drought that lasted over two minutes. VCU committed four straight turnovers over a span of more than four minutes.
  • Temple then committed four turnovers in a two-minute span. VCU went on a 6-0 run to cut the Owls' lead to seven, 16-9.
  • Since the 5:09 mark, the Owls struggled to get the offense going, committing six straight turnovers and failing to make a basket over the final four-and-a-half minutes.
  • VCU closed out the quarter by hitting 5-6 shots from the floor as the Owls held a 17-14 lead.
Second Quarter
Temple made back-to-back three-pointers to start the second quarter and increase its lead to 23-16.
Drew Alexander contributed to the Owls' hot shooting, becoming the fourth different Owl to score from behind the arc.
Temple went into the media timeout on a 7-0 run spanning just over a minute, while VCU had not scored in over two minutes.
The Owls grabbed their largest lead of the game so far after Turner scored a fast-break layup, 37-22.
Temple was on a 13-3 run lasting over four minutes, shooting 5-7 from the field.
VCU had not made a field goal since the 3:40 mark, going 0-4 during that span and just 1-9 in its last 10 attempts.

Third Quarter
  • Drew Alexander knocked down another three to give the Owls a 20-point lead, 48-28.
  • Savannah Curry recorded her sixth steal of the game, resulting in a trip to the line where she converted both free throws.
  • Kelian Cedano made her first basket of the afternoon after driving to the hoop for a layup.
  • The Owls earned their largest lead of the game after Turner knocked down another three, 61-37.
  • To close out the third quarter, the Owls went on a 9-0 run while shooting a perfect 7-7 from the floor, taking a 72-43 lead into the final quarter.

Fourth Quarter
  • VCU went on a 7-0 run following baskets from Daja Preston, Makennah White, and Katarina Knezevic, making it a 79-50 game.
  • The Owls struggled after the 8:35 mark, going on a scoreless drought lasting almost three minutes.
  • Katarina Knezevic scored 21 points after converting on a fast break, finishing 8-18 from the field.
  • After five straight turnovers, the Owls called a timeout while still enduring the scoreless run.
  • The Rams went on an 11-2 run over a four-minute span.
  • Temple called another timeout after missing its last six field goals during a six-minute stretch.
  • Brianna Mead knocked down a shot from distance to register her third three of the afternoon, 86-61 Temple.
  • Jaleesa Molina grabbed a defensive rebound to secure her double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
