Owls Hold Off Rider in Home Opener Behind Wright’s Seven Goals

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's lacrosse (1-1) defeated Rider (1-1), 15-12, in front of 128 fans Thursday evening at Howarth Field. Senior Amelia Wright led the Owls with seven goals, while Erin King added two goals in the win.

How it Happened

  • Rider jumped out to a 2-1 lead early in the first period. However, Wright scored a first-half hat trick, and King and Jenna Facciolli also found the back of the net, helping Temple take a 5-3 lead.
  • King extended Temple's advantage in the second quarter with an early goal, followed by a goal from freshman Kali Sato to make it 7-3. Rider answered with back-to-back goals, and the teams traded scores quickly as Wright and Sarah Gowman both netted goals in under 10 seconds. The Broncs finished the quarter on a 3-0 run to cut Temple's lead to 9-8 at halftime.
  • In the third quarter, Temple came out strong, with Wright, Sabrina Martin, and Kaitlin Stankavage scoring to extend the lead to 12-8. Lexi Culp added her second goal of the season, but Rider stayed within reach, scoring three more goals to close the quarter down 13-11.
  • Rider made it a one-score game again early in the fourth quarter, narrowing the gap to 13-12. However, Wright responded with two more goals to complete her day with seven and secure the 15-12 victory for Temple.

Up Next
Temple will host Saint Joseph's at Howarth Field on Wednesday, February 19. The first draw is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be televised on ESPN+.
