First Round Results

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Junior men's golfer Aidan Emmerich posted the top round of the day by an Owl, carding a two-under par 70 during his second 18 holes as he sits in a tie for 11th place individually after the first day of the Wexford Intercollegiate. As a team, Temple shaved six strokes off its first-round score and sits in 11th place at 598.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first round of the spring season was a bit up and down for the Owls, with multiple individuals having stretches of strong play.
Senior Ethan Whitney was one-under par through his first 10 holes before a tough three-hole stretch on his back nine. Whitney recovered to close at -1 over his final five holes and posted a three-over 75.
Whitney's classmate, Jake Naese, was the top finisher through 18 holes and caught fire over his final four holes, going birdie-birdie-par-birdie en route to a two-over 74.
The second round of the day featured the Owls carding 12 birdies as a team - as compared to eight over the first 18 holes.
Emmerich recorded a birdie on his first hole of the second round - the par-3 sixth hole - and stood at three-under for his round through six.
The Swampscott, Mass. native recorded pars on each of his next nine holes before the lone blemish on his round, a bogey at the par-3 third.
Whitney had a team-high four birdies during his second 18, and after a double-bogey on his first hole of the round, closed a two-under par the rest of the way as he carded an even-par 72.
As a team, the Owls stand three shots behind both Gardner-Webb and host Francis Marion, and five strokes behind Appalachian State and Mercer who are tied for seventh.
