Emmerich, Whitney Earn Top-20 Finishes at Wexford Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Junior Aidan Emmerich and senior Ethan Whitney both finished in the top 20 individually as the Temple golf team opened its spring season at the Wexford Intercollegiate. The Owls finished as a team in a tie for 11th place at 903.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both Emmerich and Whitney finished their third round with a three-over par 75, with the duo finding their way there in different fashions.
  • Emmerich carded 11 pars and a pair of birdies on his round, while Whitney totaled a team-high six birdies but was undone by two trouble holes on the course's back nine.
  • Senior Jake Naese outdid each of his teammates by a stroke, his second round of 74 on the tournament. A model of consistency, the Bradenton, Fla. product tallied a team-high 16 pars on his round.
  • On the tournament, Emmerich tied for 17th and Whitney slid in at 20th position in the field of 90 players.
  • Whitney led all players in par-3 scoring, totaling three birdies and nine pars on par-3 holes over his three rounds, and ranked in a tie for third overall with 12 birdies.
  • Emmerich ranked second amongst all players with 41 pars, one behind Xavier's Zach Burton who tallied 42.
  • Burton and his Musketeer teammates won the team title by eight strokes, and teammate Ray Filter earned medalist honors at five-under par 211.
