Morganti Matches Career-Best Round; Golf Goes Low on First Day of Dorado Beach Collegiate

2.23.25 | Men's Golf

DORADO, Puerto Rico - Senior Joey Morganti matched his top round as a collegian, carding a five-under par 67 to lead Temple golf on the opening day of the Dorado Beach Collegiate Sunday.

The Owls posted an impressive 13-under par round of 275, just one stroke shy of the program 18-hole record set earlier this season at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic in North Carolina. The team is in second place overall, two shots off the pace set by host UNC Greensboro.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Temple opened on the more difficult back nine of the par-72 TPC Dorado Beach course, and started slowly with just two birdies against eight bogeys through the first four holes played.
  • But the Owls picked it up from there, with Morganti leading the way. Holding at one-over par through his first four holes, the Havertown, Pa. product birdied the par-4 first hole to start a string of three straight birdies.
  • From there, Morganti carded four more birdies and stood at six-under par through 17 before a bogey on his final hole pushed him back a stroke.
  • Junior Aidan Emmerich, fresh off a top-20 finish last week in South Carolina, put together a consistent round of three-under par 69.
  • Emmerich totaled three birdies against no bogeys, and accumulated 15 pars on his round.
  • Senior Michael Walsh matched Emmerich's 69 by virtue of a round that saw him tally six birdies, a bogey and a double bogey on his day.
  • Another senior, Jake Naese, was the fourth player to finish in the red with a two-under par 70. Naese notched six birdies, including a run of four over a seven-hole stretch on the front nine.
  • Individually, Morganti is tied for fourth place and stands two shots off the pace set by a trio of golfers. Emmerich and Walsh are both tied for 11th, with Naese sitting in a tie for 21st.
  • As a team, Temple is three strokes in front of both UConn and Illinois State who are tied for third place at -10.
