Owls Drop Season Opener to the Blue Hens

NEWARK, DE – Temple women's lacrosse (0-1) fell to Delaware (0-1) on Friday evening in Newark. Senior Amelia Wright finished the day with four goals, while Erin King added two goals against the Blue Hens.
How It Happened
- A Delaware turnover, forced by Lily Caravela, led to Temple getting on the board first at the 10:55 mark of the first quarter, with a goal from Lexi Culp assisted by Emily Liberio. The Owls took a commanding 2-0 lead after a foul by Delaware's Kat Baseggio resulted in a free-position attempt for Temple, where Erin King netted her first of two goals on the day. The Blue Hens responded with a two-goal run to tie the game and close out the first quarter.
- Jenna Facciolli scored a goal to put Temple up 3-2 in the second quarter, but Delaware quickly tied it at 3-3. Sophomore Sarah Gowman then scored her first collegiate goal to give Temple a 4-3 lead. Delaware went on a four-goal run to take a 7-4 lead,until Wright scored for the Owls, making it 5-7 heading into halftime.
- Following halftime, Delaware scored two goals to open the third quarter. Wright and King found the net to cut Delaware's lead to 7-10 by the end of the period.
- In the fourth quarter, Wright scored back-to-back goals, followed by Gowman's goal to tie the game at 10-10. The Blue Hens responded with two more goals to secure the 12-10 victory.

The Owls will host Rider at Howarth Field on Wednesday, February 12. Game time is set for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
