PHILADELPHIA –  Temple Men's Soccer Head Coach Bryan Green announced Wednesday afternoon the hiring of Rich Kessler as the program's new Assistant Coach. Kessler joins the Owls after spending the previous two seasons at Philly rival La Salle, where he was involved in managing home game operations, coordinating team travel, and leading goalkeeper development. He also oversaw video analysis and was responsible for scouting upcoming opponents.

As a member of La Salle's coaching staff, Kessler helped guide the Explorers to 11 clean sheets over his two-year tenure. His leadership of the goalkeeping unit played a key role in La Salle finishing in the top half of the Atlantic 10 in goals allowed, save percentage, and saves per game. The Explorers went 6-8-4 last season and earned a spot in the A-10 playoffs.

"We are very excited to be adding Rich to our staff," said Green. "He brings great experience from La Salle and Reading AC of USL2 that will add to our staff and our team. He's also done a great job developing the goalkeepers at La Salle, and I know he will be great at helping our goalkeepers and the rest of the team continue their development as we strive to win the AAC."

In addition to his role at La Salle, Kessler has brought his goalkeeping expertise and coaching leadership to a variety of programs across multiple competitive levels. His previous positions include roles at Alvernia University, Penn State Abington, Penn State Berks, and Rowan College of South Jersey, as well as Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. He has also coached in the pre-professional ranks with Reading United AC and served as the Director of Goalkeeping and ECRL Head Coach at FC Delco, working with MLS Next and ECNL goalkeepers.

"I'm very excited to be joining the Temple University Men's Soccer program," said Kessler. "It's exciting to join such a great staff and get to be a part of the community on Broad Street. I'd like to thank Coach Green for bringing me on board and giving me the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the program. I'm looking forward to building relationships with the players and staff and doing whatever I can to help the team reach its goals. I'm excited to be part of something special here."
