PHILADELPHIA- The Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS) organization has revealed its 2024-2025 Black Coaches Watchlist, and Temple women's basketball Assistant Coach Wanisha Smith has earned a spot.
Smith was named one of 26 assistant coaches across NCAA Division I to be included on this year's Assistant/Associate Head Coach Watchlist.
This year's list highlights head coaches and rising assistant coaches from both mid-major and major NCAA programs, all of whom are recognized by their peers as some of the top talents in the field. Nominated coaches are regarded as the most qualified and prepared Black professionals in the NCAA, poised for career advancement.
In her three years with the Owls, Smith has played a key role in the team's success, after the Owls finished the season with a 20-11 record, marking their first back-to-back 20-win seasons since the 2014-15 through 2016-17 seasons. Temple also achieved their first back-to-back winning seasons since 2014-15 through 2016-17. In the American Athletic Conference (AAC) play, they posted a 13-5 record, marking their first back-to-back 13-win season since the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. The team started AAC play with a 6-1 record, matching their best-ever start in AAC history (set in 2016-17). Additionally, their seven-game winning streak from February 11 to March 10 was their longest since the 2016-17 season.
