Whitney Tied for Second After Opening Round of Cutter Creek Intercollegiate

SNOW HILL, N.C. - Senior Ethan Whitney carded a three-under par 69 to lead the Temple University men's golf team on the first day of the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate. The Owls as a team registered a one-under par 287 and are in fifth place with two rounds left to play.

- Whitney, who is tied for second place and one shot off the individual lead, was one of three Owls to shoot under par on the day.
- Both senior Jake Naese and junior Aidan Emmerich - who are tied for 12th - fired two-under par rounds of 70.
- The trio put together impressive front nines, with Whitney and Emmerich coming in at two-under par and Naese one stroke behind at one-under 35.
- Freshman Mason Tome also had a good front side, going birdie-birdie on the seventh and eighth holes to sit at one-under par at the turn.
- The back side saw Whitney and Naese each shoot one-under par 35, with Naese's back side including an eagle 3 on the par-5 11th hole.
- Emmerich had seven pars over his final nine holes, and overall had a team-high 14 pars for his round to tie for the tournament lead.
- Whitney and Emmerich are tied for second overall in par-3 scoring at 2.75, while Emmerich is tied for fifth in par-4 scoring at 3.90.
- The second round of the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET.
