Temple Drops Non-Conference Road Contest to No. 10 Princeton

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Temple University field hockey team fell to No. 10 Princeton, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Bedford Field.
With the loss, Temple moves to 5-6 on the season, while Princeton improves to 6-4.
Alex Lepore made seven saves in cage for the Owls. Princeton held a 12-3 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 edge in shots on goal, while earning five penalty corners to Temple's one.
Temple returns to BIG EAST action Friday, traveling to No. 7 UConn for a 3 p.m. contest in Storrs, Conn.
How It Happened
Lepore was tested just over a minute into the contest, turning away Pru Lindsey's attempt for the only shot of the opening quarter. Temple's defense kept the Tigers off the board through the first 15 minutes.
Temple generated its first opportunity early in the second quarter when Rozlyn Maciejewski put a shot on cage at the 18:23 mark, but Princeton goalkeeper Olivia Caponiti made the save.
The Tigers broke through at 20:32 on a penalty corner. Lindsey inserted the ball to Izzy Morgan, who set it at the top of the circle for Clem Houlden. Houlden fired through traffic and into the cage to give Princeton a 1-0 lead.
Princeton doubled its advantage on another penalty corner just over five minutes later. Morgan stopped the insert before Lilly Wojcik sent the ball toward the cage, where Ottilie Sykes redirected it past Lepore at the 25:51 mark for a 2-0 lead.
The Tigers nearly added another goal 26 seconds into the third quarter, but Lindsey's attempt hit the post. Lepore followed with saves on Ella Cashman and Lydia Bills to keep the Owls within two.
Princeton added its third goal with 47 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Sykes sent a long drive into the circle, where Saylor Milone got a stick on the ball and redirected it into the cage to make it 3-0.
Temple earned its lone penalty corner in the 53rd minute and continued to look for a breakthrough late. Brooke Weaver sent an attempt wide with under four minutes remaining, while Lepore made three fourth-quarter saves to keep Princeton off the board over the final 15 minutes.
