PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University field hockey team (5-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) continues its road swing with a pair of contests in Connecticut, returning to BIG EAST action at No. 4 UConn (9-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) on Friday at 3 p.m. before traveling to Yale (6-2) for a Sunday matchup at noon.

Friday's contest with No. 4 UConn marks the second consecutive top-10 matchup for Temple, after battling No. 10 Princeton last Sunday.

Temple enters the weekend at 5-6 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play.

Lucia Magro and Rozlyn Maciejewski continue to pace the Temple attack with 11 points apiece. Magro leads the Owls with five goals, while Maciejewski has four goals and three assists. Gauvin has moved into a tie for second on the team with four goals and ranks third with eight points.

Lonneke Kerkhof leads Temple with four assists while adding one goal for six points. Mina Uezbe and Maciejewski are tied for second on the team with three assists each. Temple

Lepore has anchored the Owls in cage, with Temple totaling 52 saves through 11 games. The junior made 11 saves across last weekend's games, including seven at Princeton.

Temple returns to conference action Friday after consecutive non-conference games against Delaware and Princeton. The Owls are 1-1 in BIG EAST play, earning a 2-1 comeback victory over Georgetown in their conference opener before falling 4-1 at Villanova. UConn enters the matchup unbeaten in league play at 3-0.

Another Top-10 Test

Friday's meeting with No. 4 UConn will be Temple's second consecutive matchup against a top-10 opponent after facing No. 10 Princeton on Sunday.

The Huskies are the highest-ranked team Temple has faced this season. The Owls have already faced four nationally ranked opponents in Maryland, Monmouth, Princeton and now UConn. Additionally, Lafayette has been featured in the NFHCA Top-20 since playing Temple in early September.

Last Time Out

Temple dropped a pair of non-conference contests last weekend, falling 2-1 to Delaware at Howarth Field on Friday before dropping a 3-0 decision at No. 10 Princeton on Sunday.

Against Delaware, Kathryn Gauvin scored her fourth goal of the season in the fourth quarter to pull the Owls within one. Temple outshot Delaware, 12-11, and held a 7-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Owls generated six shots and all three of their penalty corners in the final quarter. The Owls were assessed three yellow cards and a green card and were down a player for 22 minutes of game time.

Temple then traveled to Princeton, where Alex Lepore made seven saves against the nationally ranked Tigers. Princeton scored twice on penalty corners in the second quarter before adding a third-quarter goal to secure the 3-0 victory.

UConn enters Friday riding a six-game winning streak and sits atop the BIG EAST standings with a 3-0 conference record. The Huskies' only loss came in a 1-0 decision at Harvard on Sept. 6.

The Huskies have been especially strong at home, posting a 4-0 record in Storrs. Their current winning streak includes victories over Rutgers, Villanova, Princeton, Liberty, Providence and UMass. Three of those wins came against teams ranked at the time of the matchup.

UConn most recently defeated UMass in a shootout on Sunday. The Huskies and Minutewomen played to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtime periods before UConn prevailed, 4-3, in the shootout. UConn improved to 4-0 in shootouts this season.

Lucy Zich leads the UConn offense with eight goals and 19 points through 10 games. Milou Heuker has a team-high six assists, while Ellie Goldstein has scored four goals and Olivia McKenna and Abby Davidson have three apiece.

Natalie McKenna has anchored one of the nation's top defensive units, ranking ninth nationally with a 0.94 goals-against average. .

Five of the last six meetings since 2021 between UConn and Temple have been decided by a single goal.

Yale enters the weekend at 6-2 overall following a 2-0 road victory over Monmouth on Sunday. The Bulldogs will host Columbia in Ivy League action Friday before welcoming Temple to Johnson Field.

The Bulldogs have been productive on both ends of the field, averaging 3.00 goals per game while allowing just 1.00. Yale has outscored its opponents 24-8 and averages 14.4 shots per contest.

Chiara Picciafuoco has powered the Yale attack, totaling eight goals and six assists for 22 points through eight games. She leads the Bulldogs in goals, assists and points. Issy Baileff has added five goals, while Emma Ramsey has three goals and five assists.

Amelie Schwarzkopf ranks among the nation's best in cage, sitting fourth nationally with an .818 save percentage and 11th with a 0.98 goals-against average. Both marks rank among the top three in the Ivy League.

Yale opened the season with five consecutive victories before suffering back-to-back losses to Cornell and Princeton. The Bulldogs responded Sunday with the shutout win at Monmouth.

The Bulldogs reached the NCAA Tournament last season after finishing 12-5 during the regular season. Temple handed Yale one of those losses, defeating the then-No. 14 Bulldogs, 2-1, at Howarth Field.
