Owls Close Out Cherry & White Invitational With a WIN
8.30.26 | Women's Volleyball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Women's volleyball team (2-1) sweep Rider University (1-1) in 3 sets, (25-15, 25-20, 26-24) to close out the Cherry and White Invitational at McGonnigle Hall in Philadelphia, PA. Junior Khenedi Guest and Senior Olivia Hummel were a stand outs as they lead the team in points with 15 each.
How It Happened
SET1
Early mistakes by Rider got Temple out to an 3-1 lead
Aces by Olivia Hummel and Khenedi Guest increased the lead to 8-3
A strong defensive effort from Lexi Yoza built the lead to 10-3
Guest could not be stopped as she had back to back aces leading to a 12-3 lead for the Owls. She showed elite serving skills as she logged 4 aces in the first set
Towards the end of the first, Rider was strong defensively and came back on a 4-0 run to make the score 19-9
Guest ended their hopes with a clever spike to close out the set 25-15
SET2
Rider came out hot scoring 3 straight to lead 1-4
The Owls made a comeback, and Khenedi Guest ended their streak with a strong spike to tie the game at 5.
Early in the second set, Christiana Green showed off her skill blocking and attacking for the Owls scoring 2 straight while Guest recorded a decisive block to take the owls up 10-8
Hummel recoded another ace to take the owls to a 14-10 lead
The game saw back and forth action till an athletic spike by Freshmen Kennedy Crayton gave the Owls a 22-19 lead
Guest continued to be a handful as she recorded 2 straight aces to give the owls a 25-20 victory
SET3
Green and Guest got the scoring started early for the Owls going up 3-1
The Owls defense held strong and forced errors to go up 7-2, But Rider would come storming back to tie the set at 10-10
Temples defense once again forced errors on Rider leading to a 4-0 run tying the game again at 15
Rider then went on a 2-0 run that was ended with back to back kills from Green and Hummel that brought the set to 22-19
Rider came back on a 3-0 run and tied the match at 23-23 till Hummel closed out the match with back to back kills giving the Owls a 26-26 victory to close out the Cherry and White Invitational
