Maciejewski Scores Twice in Third as Temple Tops Georgetown in BIG EAST Opener

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Rozlyn Maciejewski scored twice in the third quarter as the Temple University field hockey team rallied past Georgetown, 2-1, in its BIG EAST opener Friday afternoon at Howarth Field.
With the win, Temple improves to 4-3 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown falls to 3-4 and 0-1 in conference action.
Maciejewski accounted for both Temple goals, scoring her third and fourth of the season to move to four goals, two assists and 10 points on the year. Lonneke Kerkhof added an assist, while Alex Lepore made five saves in cage. Temple outshot Georgetown, 15-10, including 11-3 after halftime, and held a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Temple remains home Sunday to host Hofstra at noon at Howarth Field.

How It Happened
Georgetown struck first in the sixth minute when Katherine Malloy found the back of the cage to give the Hoyas a 1-0 advantage at the 5:55 mark.
The Hoyas generated six shots and three penalty corners during the opening quarter, but Lepore made a pair of saves to keep the deficit at one. Temple's best first-quarter opportunity came from Isabella Pisano, whose attempt was stopped by Georgetown goalkeeper Alex Duff.
Temple began to settle in during the second quarter. Kathryn Gauvin put two shots on goal in the opening four minutes of the period, but Duff turned both away. Lepore later stopped Tatum Johnson in the closing minutes of the half as Georgetown carried its 1-0 lead into the break.
The Owls flipped the game in the third quarter.
Temple pulled even at the 32:39 mark after Mina Uezbe's attempt was stopped by a Georgetown defensive save. Maciejewski stayed with the play and knocked home the loose ball for her third goal of the season, tying the game at 1-1.

Temple continued to apply pressure, earning five penalty corners in the quarter. The breakthrough came with 4:44 remaining when Kerkhof inserted a penalty corner to Maciejewski, who fired the ensuing shot into the cage for her second goal of the game and fourth of the season, giving the Owls a 2-1 lead.

The Owls kept Georgetown on its heels in the fourth quarter, outshooting the Hoyas, 5-1, and earning four more penalty corners. Lepore stopped Georgetown's lone shot on goal in the period at the 47:49 mark, and Temple generated several chances down the stretch before closing out the one-goal victory.
