Tomé Leads Owls on First Day of Ironwood Collegiate Classic

PHILADELPHIA - Junior Mason Tomé registered rounds of 73 and 71 to lead the Temple University men's golf team on the opening day of the Ironwood Collegiate Classic on Monday. Tomé stands at even-par 144 for the tournament and is in the top 20 individually heading into the final day on Tuesday.

As a team, the Owls shaved seven strokes off their first-round score and matched host East Carolina's team score of 291 for the fourth-best team total of the second round. Eight teams were unable to finish the second 18 holes of the day, and will round out their final few holes before starting the third and final round Tuesday.

Day One Highlights

Round 2 Fun

While Tomé led the charge overall, sophomore Nicholas Pisarski carded a two-under par score of 70 for his second round, the top 18-hole score of any Owl.

Big Improvement

Max Jackson shaved five strokes off his first-round score and carded a one-over par 73 on round two, the second-biggest improvement of any Temple player (Pisarski - 6 shots).

Back Nine

Senior Matthew Vital, playing as an individual, shot one-under par 35 on the back nine of his second round and finished at two-over 74 for his round.
