Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, is in his first season as an assistant coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League. "Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy," Valli said. "He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team." "Ever since my college days, I hoped to someday coach with Coach Valli," Anderson said. "I'm looking forward to helping the Owls reach the NCAA Tournament." Anderson, a native of Wayland, MA (Wayland HS), was drafted in the 41st round by the Colorado Rockies in the 2003 Major League Draft, but decided to join Valli at Gloucester CC instead. He earned all-region and all-conference honors as a freshman in 2004, leading the Roadrunners to the NJCAA Division III College World Series after batting a team-best .405 with five home runs, 36 RBI and 14 stolen bases. In 2005, he batted .374 with three home runs, 32 RBI and 22 steals to propel GCC to the NJCAA Division III National Championship. He also repeated as an all-region and all-conference selection. Anderson finished his career as the all-time hits leader at GCC. After graduating from Gloucester, he played two seasons at Georgia College and State University, where he was a Second Team Division II All-American as a junior in 2006. He batted .354 with 18 doubles, seven homers, 65 RBI and 23 steals to also pick up First Team All-Region and All-Peach Belt Conference honors. The Bobcats reached both the Peach Belt and NCAA Division II Regional finals that season, finishing with a 53-12 record. As a senior in 2007, Anderson batted .305 with four home runs, 45 RBI and 11 steals to earn all-region honors for the second straight year at GCSU. The Bobcats also reached the NCAA South Atlantic Regional Tournament and finished with a 46-16 record. He made his professional debut after signing with the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League in July, 2007. Anderson played 16 games with the Kings in 2007 and batted .294 with eight homers, 32 RBI and 34 steals in 77 games in 2008. Anderson made his coaching debut this spring as an assistant at Concord-Carlisle (MA) High School, helping C-C to a second place finish in the Dual County Conference, Small Division standings.
