He helped lead Delaware to the the CAA finals in 2004 as an assistant and began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Rowan University in 2003 after graduating from Delaware in 2002 with a bachelor of arts in history. During the summer of 2004, Fahy was an assistant coach for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plains League.

As a player, Fahy batted .341, broke the school's single season stolen base record and led the CAA in steals to earn second team all-league honors as a senior in 2002. He ranks second all-time in steals at Delaware with 79 and helped the Blue Hens to two America East championships and NCAA Regional appearances (2000, 2001).

Fahy prepped at Gloucester Catholic and had 110 hits, 123 runs scored and 102 stolen bases in his high school career. As a senior, he was named all-conference, all-Parochial Group B, all-South Jersey, and all-state. He was also a USA Today honorable mention All-American as a senior after hitting .632 and stealing 42 bases without being caught. He led the team to the 1996 state championship.
