Adam Bray, who has spent the last five years serving as a volunteer cross country/track & field coach at a pair of BCS institutions is in his first season on head coach Eric Mobley's staff as the assistant coach for cross country/track & field.
Working as a volunteer at Illinois, Bray spent 2009-12 assisting with both the Illini's men and women's track & field/cross country programs, following a two-year stint in the same role at Maryland.
Bray comes to Temple fresh off helping the women's Illini squad take the runner-up position at the Outdoor B1G Championships last spring. During the season that he primarily assisted the women's squad, multiple athletes scored at the B1G Championships, four distance athletes qualified for the NCAA West Region preliminary meet and one set a school record in the 10,000 meter run with a time of (34:23).
While mainly focusing on the men's side from 2009-11, he assisted the coaching of three All-Region (Midwest) performers in cross country (18th-2009, 17th/24th-2010), while four track athletes qualified for the NCAA West preliminary in 2010 and 2011. Bray also contributed to the cross country team's fifth place finish at NCAA Midwest Regional Championships in 2010.
Before arriving at Illinois, Bray spent 2007-2009 aiding Maryland's coaching staff also as a volunteer. With the Terrapins, he individually coached female mid-distance and distance athletes, including 2008 and 2009 Atlantic Coastal Conference finalists, 2009 ECAC indoor and outdoor finalists and all-region honorees in 2007.
While helping the Terrapin's cross country team, he helped produce an NCAA individual qualifier (Alex Lundy) in 2008 and worked with the men's 4x400m relay team, who captured the 2008 ACC indoor title and the runner-up spot for the outdoor slate.
He spent a year as the graduate assistant at Akron during the 2005-2006 seasons. During that time, the Zips won the Mid-American Conference cross country, indoor and outdoor track team titles. He also worked as an academic counselor in the athletic department at Kent State during the 2006-07 season.
Originally from Ohio, Bray graduated from the University of Akron in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in education, and went on to receive his master's degree from Akron in sports science in 2006.
