Miodrag “Mickey” Zeljkovic joined Temple Fencing as an assistant coach in the fall of 2024, primarily working with the epee squad.
He is the owner and head coach of Zeljkovic Fencing Academy in Huntingdon Valley, PA, where he leads both Olympic and Paralympic fencing programs. He founded the academy in 2014.
On the national stage, Zeljkovic most recently served as the Head National Coach of the USA Parafencing Team from 2019 to 2021, coaching the team at the 2021 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach for the team from 2010 to 2019, coaching at the World Championships, Zonal Championships, World Cups, and various national competitions.
Zeljkovic served as an assistant coach at the University of Pennsylvania for four seasons, beginning in 2010. There, he coached both the men's and women's teams, specializing in epee and foil. During his tenure with the Quakers, the men's team posted an 80.1% win rate, while the women's team achieved a 75.7% mark. He played a key role in developing 18 All-Ivy selections and 12 NCAA All-Americans.
Zeljkovic moved to the United States in 2008 and was hired by the New Jersey Fencing Alliance to develop Olympic and Paralympic fencers. He also served as an assistant coach at the Fencing Academy of South Jersey in Cherry Hill from 2010 to 2014.
With more than 30 years of coaching experience, Zeljkovic began his career in his hometown of Belgrade, Serbia.
He has coached on three continents and in five countries and is widely recognized both nationally and internationally as a decorated Olympic and Paralympic fencing coach.
From 2007 to 2008, Zeljkovic served as the head coach at Fencing Club Pobednik in Serbia. He was a national coach for the Fencing Federation of Serbia from 1997 to 2005 and served as President of the Serbian National Coaching Committee from 2000 to 2005.
Zeljkovic also spent two years as the national coach for the Kuwait Fencing Federation (2005–07) while simultaneously serving as head coach at Fencing Club Salmiya in Kuwait.
Zeljkovic graduated from the University of Sport and Physical Education in Serbia with a degree in coaching. He was awarded a scholarship to attend the Institute of Coaching and Sport Education in Budapest, Hungary, where he earned a coaching certificate.
He began fencing as a teenager and competed in epee as a member of the Serbian National Cadet, Junior, and Senior teams. In his home country, he won multiple national championships in epee, foil, and sabre.
