Coach Tasia Ford has had an impactful journey with Temple University’s fencing program, progressing from student-athlete to alumna and now serving as a full-time assistant coach. She is currently in her sixth season as the Owls’ sabre coach, continuing to elevate the program’s competitive success.Â
During the most recent season, Ford led her squad to a 23–14 record, contributing to an impressive overall coaching record of 148–84. Ending the Post-Season Competitions with a fourth place Mid-Atlantic South regional finish from sophomore Alex Papapetropoulou and a Second place NIWFA conference win from first-year Keely Carter.  Throughout her tenure, she has consistently demonstrated excellence in both athlete development and team performance.Â
Ford’s time with the program has been marked by several notable achievements. In the 2020–21 season, six Temple fencers qualified for the NCAA Championships, highlighted by sabre fencer Eva Hinds, who placed 8th overall and earned Second Team All-American honors. She has also guided the program to two 30+ win seasons; an accomplishment achieved only three times in program history.Â
Her leadership was especially evident during the 2023–24 season, when the sabre squad posted a remarkable 32–9 record, finishing just three wins shy of the program’s record of 35 victories set in 2016–17. Also, during this season was sabre fencer, Lauren Johnson’s debut at NCAA Championships where she placed 15th and received the USFCA newcomer of the year award. Â
Ford’s coaching excellence has earned her recognition as a U.S. Fencing Coaches Association (USFCA) Assistant Coach of the Year finalist in the 2020–21, 2021–22, and 2023–24 seasons. Additionally, she has played a key role in securing six NIWFA Team Championships for Temple, marking the 30th consecutive championship title win for the program. Â
On the international stage, Ford was selected as a USA Fencing designated coach for the Junior Women’s Sabre Team during the 2025–26 season, where she traveled to Budapest, Hungary, to coach Team USA in competition.Â
A former competitive sabre fencer, Ford brings over two decades of experience in the sport. She began fencing at a young age and went on to compete at the national and international levels, including Cadet and Junior World Cups, earning multiple podium finishes.  Following her collegiate career, she continued to develop athletes as a coach at Delaware Valley Fencers Club before returning to Temple, where she remains a strong advocate for the growth and representation of women in athletics. Â
