Jazmyn Estrella
- Title:
- Volunteer Assistant Coach
On Thursday, Dec. 1, women's gymnastics head coach Josh Nilson announced that former Temple Owls' gymnast Jazmyn Estrella will join the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach for the upcoming 2023 season.
Â
"We are excited to have Jazmyn back in the gym. She represented Temple very well as an athlete, and now will represent Temple on the coaching side. When she reached out and expressed interest in becoming a college coach- I jumped on the opportunity to get her involved. She has a wealth of gymnastics knowledge and she is passionate about helping us continue to be successful. " said Nilson.
Â
The Allentown, Pa. native returns to North Broad Street after two decorated seasons with Owls in 2019 and 2020. On Feb. 21, 2020, Estrella set the uneven bars record with a 9.95. Her record still stands today, and at the time it was the highest score by any Owls' gymnast since the 2002 season. Estrella's individual accolades include seven event title wins, ECAC Gymnast of the Week, All-ECAC First Team (bars), First and Second Team (vault), and Second Team (beam). Estrella helped the Cherry and White to two consecutive ECAC Championships in 2019 and 2020, and the program's beam record.
Â
"I am so excited to be a part of this program again. Temple Gymnastics has grown so much and I can't wait to help this team continue to grow this season. My hope is that I can help push this team to be the best they can possibly be and end the season with some rings!" expressed Estrella.
Â
Prior to Temple, Estrella spent the 2017 and 2018 season at Utah State where she qualified for NCAA Regional on bars, vault, and floor and earned Mountain Rim Conference Specialist of the Week on multiple occasions.
