Helen Clay Gallagher first joined the Sports Medicine staff at Temple in 2013 as a Graduate Extern Athletic Trainer. She was hired full-time as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in September, 2015. In November of 2018, she was promoted to Associate Athletic Trainer serving as the second in command to the Associate Director of Athletic Training for the Olympic Sports. Gallagher works directly with the volleyball and women's rowing teams and serves as a clinical preceptor with the Temple Athletic Training students. Gallagher completed her doctorate in athletic training from Temple in 2019.
Gallagher has been trained in the implementation of functional movement assessments, neurodynamics, and techniques from the Postural Restoration Institute as additional clinical skills for the advancement of medical care for Temple student-athletes. From 2015-2017, Gallagher was an adjunct faculty member with the Kinesiology department, teaching anatomy and physiology and therapeutic modalities.
Gallagher previously worked with men's tennis team and supervised the graduate extern with track and field and cross country. Prior to returning as a full-time employee with Temple Athletics, Gallagher worked for NovaCare to provide direct care for the Temple cheerleading and dance teams. While earning her Master's in Kinesiology with a concentration in Athletic Training from Temple, which she received in May 2015, she worked with the men's crew and women's rowing teams.
While earning her undergraduate degree from Penn State, Gallagher worked as an athletic training student with a number of the Nittany Lions' athletic teams. She also spent parts of two years working as a personal trainer with Fitness Trainers, Inc., in Malvern, Pa, with clients that ranged from general fitness, athletes in training, traumatic brain injuries, neuromuscular disease, and continual recovery post physical therapy from a traumatic physical injury.
Gallagher earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Penn State in 2013. She earned her athletic training board certification one month after graduation and is also licensed by the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine. She is a member of a number of professional organizations including the National Athletic Trainers' Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers' Society.
Gallagher, her husband Dan, and daughter Brooke, reside in Erdenheim, Pa.
