Royal Milton III joined the Temple Athletics Staff as an assistant athletic trainer in July 2024, through affiliation with NovaCare Rehabilitation. He works primarily with the Temple Men's Basketball team.
Milton came to Temple from the University of Texas at Arlington, where he spent four years as an Associate Athletic Trainer working with the Men's Basketball team. He also served as the NCAA and INstitutional Drug Testing and Education Coordinator. A native of New Orleans, Milton, spent the 2019-20 season as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Erie Bayhawks -- the NBA G League affiliate of the Pelicans -- overseeing all aspects of the club's athletic training. He worked collaboratively with the team's strength and conditioning coach, physician, and coaching staff to ensure top player performance.
Before his time with the Bayhawks in Erie, Pennsylvania, Milton served from 2016-19 as the graduate assistant coordinator and assistant athletic trainer for the ULM Men's Basketball and Women's Tennis teams. Milton also brings a diverse professional sports background to Temple, as he spent 2015-16 as the Associate Athletic Trainer with the Orlando Magic, assisting and supporting the head athletic trainer in daily operations. In 2014-15, Milton spent time with the New Orleans Saints as a seasonal assistant athletic training intern.
A certified and licensed athletic trainer, Milton III received his Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Nicholls State in May of 2013 and his Master of Education in Educational Technology Leadership in July of 2014. Royal has been a certified athletic trainer since 2013 and has held a Pennsylvania State Board of Medicne since 2024. He is a member of both the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society.
