Owls Down Penn, 4-3, in Field Hockey

PHILADELPHIA (October 20) -- The Temple Owls returned to the win column after a 4-3
victory over Pennsylvania today at Geasey Field. Junior Kacy Ziomek
(Sweet Valley, Pa./Lake Lehman) scored two first half goals and assisted
on the game winner for the Owls who snapped a three game losing streak.
Ziomek gave the Owls a 1-0 lead with 9:21 to go in the first period.
Penn's Kylee Jakobowski (Gladwyne, Pa./Episcopal Academy) tied the game
two and a half minutes later. Ziomek put the Owls ahead again at 3:31 in
the first, but 30 second later, Courtney Martin (Boyertown, pa./Reading
Central Catholic) knotted the score at 2-2.
Penn took its first lead of the contest at 32:15 of the second period
when Martin scored her second goal of the game. Temple senior Torie
Russell scored the unassisted equalizer at 22:06. With 16:24 to play,
Ziomek set up midfielder Laura Bergey (Telford, Pa./Christopher Dock)
with the game winner.
Goalie Serene McGrath (Cinnaminson, N.J./Little Flower) turned away nine
shots, seven in the second period.
The Owls, who have already clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10
Tournament, will play for seeding this weekend when they travel to Rhode
Island and Massachusetts.
