Blackshear Declared Ineligible

Philadelphia, PA (October 24) Temple University student-athlete Ronald Blackshear has

been declared ineligible to participate in the 1999-2000 men's

basketball season it was announced today by Head Coach John Chaney.

Blackshear was initially cleared to play by the NCAA Clearinghouse;

however, based on his new test score he is now considered a

non-qualifier.

"Ron agreed to take a retest of the SAT after his first score was

challenged," Chaney said. "Unfortunately, as a result of the retest, he

has now been declared a non-qualifier for the 1999-2000 season."

Blackshear, a 6-4, 190-pound shooting guard, was admitted to Temple

University as a freshman in September 1999. The Camilla, Georgia native

averaged 19.0 points per game as a sophomore and senior, and 21.0 ppg.

as a junior at Mitchell-Baker High School for Coach Rufus McDuffie. A

three-year varsity starter at Mitchell-Baker, he led the school to the

Georgia State Championship as a senior.
