Temple Ready to Host Super Sports Weekend
11.15.99 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA (November 14) -- Saturday and Sunday, November 20-21 will be one of the
biggest home sports weekends in Temple history with the Temple football
team hosting No. 2 Virginia Tech and the No. 6 Temple men's basketball
team opening the season with Miami, Ohio.
First on Saturday, Head Coach Bobby Wallace's Owls play No. 2 Virginia
Tech at Veterans Stadium at 12 noon (the game was originally scheduled
for 1 p.m.). The Owls played spoiler last year, upsetting the then No.
10/14 Hokies in Blacksburg, Va. on their Homecoming Day. This year the
stakes are higher as the Hokies angle for the National Championship.
Fans at the game can enjoy numerous clinics and activities. They will
have the opportunity to meet some of Philadelphia's great professional
athletes. The line up includes:
Eagles: Harold Carmichael and Chuck Bednarik
Sixer: Gerald Henderson
Flyers: Rick MacLeish and Dave Schultz
Phillies: Steve Carlton, John Vukovich and Sparky Lyle
Boxer: Joe Frazier.
Then on Sunday, Head Coach John Chaney's nationally ranked squad will
face 1999 NCAA Sweet 16 participant Miami, Ohio at The Apollo of Temple
at 2 p.m.
At halftime, the two most prolific scorers in Temple basketball history,
Mark Macon and Marilyn Stephens-Franklyn will have their jersey numbers
retired, and the Owls will also honor the memory of the late Harry "The
Chief" Litwack.
