Field Hockey: Duke Defeats Temple, 5-0

DURHAM, N.C. (September 24) -- Paced by two first-half goals by sophomore back Courtney
Sommer (Tulsa, Okla), the Duke field hockey team built a 4-0 halftime
advantage en route to a 5-0 victory over Temple on Saturday at Williams
Field. Duke improves to 6-3 on the season, while Temple falls to 1-7 on
the year.
Sophomore forward Liz Bateman (Berwyn, Pa.) opened the scoring at the
20:41 mark with a goal off of an assist by senior forward Corey
Ceccolini (Branford, Conn.). Sommer then scored the first of her
consecutive goals with an unassisted goal at 9:44. She scored again at
6:44 when she converted assist passes from sophomore back Angie North
and sophomore midfielder Kim Susko (Short Hills, N.J.). Sophomore
forward Melissa Yuppa added the Blue Devils' fourth goal with 4:04
remaining in the first half. Bateman scored Duke's final goal of the
day at 27:45 of the second half off of an assist by Yuppa.
Duke goalkeepers, senior Jenn Robb (McLean, Va.) and freshman Erica
Perrier (St. Lambert, Quebec), combined for four saves in the shutout.
Duke returns to action on Sunday at home when it hosts Massachusetts at
1 pm.
