Syracuse, NY (Sept. 4, 1999) -- Seniors Kelly Hambleton (Ivyland, PA) and Marisa Hand (Haddonfield, NJ) scored two goals apiece to lead the Syracuse University field hockey team to a 7-0 shutout of Temple this afternoon at Coyne Field. It marked the 250th victory for the SU field hockey program, now in its 27th season of existence. Syracuse (2-0) got its first goal of the game from sophomore forward Michelle Aronowicz (Exton, PA) at the 25:49 mark of the first half. Hambleton dribbled in off a missed corner attempt and ripped a winning shot for SU's second goal nearly three minutes later. The Orangewomen went up 3-0 after sophomore Caylin Dicruttalo (Gloversville, NY) punched in a pass that was initially sent across the circle by Aronowicz, but redirected by Hambleton before it found Dicruttalo's stick. Dicruttalo had just entered the game and was not on the field longer than a minute before she netted her first career goal. In the second half, Hand got involved in the offense. She had a breakaway opportunity and beat the Temple goalkeeper, but her shot ricocheted off the near post. At the 22:25 mark, Hand received a pass from Hambleton and this time was able to find the back of the cage. She returned the favor to Hambleton as the pair connected for SU's fifth goal at 20:31. Hand tallied again at the 17:40 mark off an assist from Aronowicz. Her five points on the afternoon (two goals, one assist) marked a career-best effort. The Orangewomen executed perfectly for the game's seventh and final goal. On a penalty corner, senior Gemma Ormonde (Bray, Ireland) pushed the ball out to junior stopper Colleen Cech (Moorestown, NJ) who passed the ball over to senior back Tracy Larkin (Greene, NY) who wound up and slapped in her first goal of the season. Syracuse outshot the Owls, 23-5. Temple's starting goalkeeper Serene McGrath made all seven Temple saves. It was the first game of the season for the Owls. The Orangewomen will next be in action on Mon., Sept. 6 when they take on six-time defending Mid-American Conference champion Ball State (0-2) at 1 p.m. on Coyne Field.
