PHILADELPHIA (October 11) - The 2000-01 Temple University mens basketball schedule will include 10 national television dates and no less than 25 exposures overall, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Dave O'Brien. The Owls will be seen on ESPN six times, ESPN2 twice, ABC twice, the Atlantic 10 Conference regional network nine times and on local outlets an additional six times. The number could increase if the Owls advance into the latter rounds of the Preseason NIT.
The national ESPN dates include a visit to Memphis and new Tiger head coach John Calipari Nov.17 (9:00 p.m. ET); a home date against coach Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils at the First Union Center Dec. 2 (7:00 p.m. ET); a home date versus ACC-power Wake Forest at The Liacouras Center Dec. 21 (7:00 p.m. ET); a home date versus Atlantic 10 Conference rival Massachusetts Jan. 27 (12:00 p.m. ET); an A-10 road game at Xavier Feb. 10 (12:00 p.m. ET); and an A-10 home game against Dayton on Feb. 24 (12:00 p.m. ET).
The Owls will be featured on "the Deuce" (ESPN2) in a home game against 2000 Final Four participant and Big Ten-power Wisconsin Dec. 14 (7:00 p.m. ET) and again at Philadelphia Big Five and Atlantic 10 Conference rival St. Joseph's on Feb. 13 (9:30 p.m. ET). The ABC contests feature the Owls at home against coach Bob Huggins and the Cincinnati Bearcats in a big non-conference tilt on Jan. 20 (2:00 p.m. ET); and at U-Mass on Feb. 17 (1:00 p.m. ET).
"I believe the 2000-01 television schedule will be the greatest ever for Temple basketball," said O'Brien. "It not only gives our fans the opportunity to follow the team on the road, it provides tremendous national exposure throughout the season for our student-athletes, our coaches and the University as a whole."
In addition to Temple's national television dates, the Owls will be seen regionally and locally in a total of 15 games. Comcast SportsNet and/or CN8 will air each of the Owls' nine exposures on the Atlantic 10 Conference regional network. Local telecasts -five by CSN, and one by CN8- will account for the six remaining television dates for the Owls in the 2000-01 season.
