Field Hockey Runs Out of Time Against No. 9 Massachusetts

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 14)- The Temple field hockey team lost to No. 9

Massachusetts, 2-1, today at Geasey Field.

After a period of aggressive play on both ends, the game remained

scoreless after the first. The Minutewomen were unable to capitalize on

a penalty stoke by Kristen Schmidt. Temple goalie Serene McGrath

(Cinnaminson, N.J./Little Flower) made an impressive save to keep the

game scoreless.

UMass Schmidt redeemed herself with a goal with 25:53 remaining in the

game. Katilyn Byron added another goal for the Minutewomen with 23:37

left to play. The Owls got a goal off the stick of junior Juliann Leskiw

(Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Coughlin) with 11:04 remaining in the game. Freshman

Haley Dervinis (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) assisted on the

goal. Time ran out for the Cherry and White as they began their

comeback.

The Owls will next be in action at home tomorrow at noon against Rhode

Island in an Atlantic 10 match up.
